![]() If the above two steps don't work you could always downgrade to the previous OS by doing a clean install of Sierra or El Capitan or to maximise life out of the the 2010 MBP you could consider putting on a light linux OS but that may be unattractive to your mum as it means learning a new OS and linux can be tricky sometimes for new users. User account settings (such as email, website favourites, etc) should automatically be applied to the new install when you sign into iCloud. Theres plenty of tutorials on how to do this on the internet but of course be sure to back up important files as everything is wiped on a clean install. Finally, my ram is almost all used up (16gb ddr4) to top it off. The other drives have 0 usage, even though they should be 100 usage and being checked for the many files. I would recommend cleaning that of dust if it has not been done recently even if you have not noticed any excessive heat.Ī clean install of the operating system works wonders if your mum has simply upgraded each time through the App Store. The 4tb drive is being read at max speeds (100 usage) even though Im not moving anything off of it and nothing to check as it was wiped. I have recently cleaned the radiator and my MBP runs much cooler under the same load. I made the mistake of just cleaning the fans rather than the radiator when opening up my MBP. Is it running hot? If the fans and, more importantly the heat sink radiator have not been cleaned then 8 years worth of dust will make your mums computer run hotter and thus slower.
